Bean bags are as popular and as cool now as they were back in the 70′s. This is furniture that kids would really love to have in their room. Kids and adults alike love playing with these and they tend to get used a lot. Because of this, bean bags lose their shape after it has been used for a long period of time and sitting in an old one becomes uncomfortable because the beads have become compressed. The good news is that there are alternatives to buying a new one. One such alternative is buying bean bag refills. With the use of inexpensive polystyrene filling, you can bring back the shape and coziness of your bag.

The first thing to do before putting in bean bag refill is to remove the beads from inside the bean bag. It is better if your bean bag has a zipper as this will allow easy removal. Simply unzip it, get a trash bag and transfer the contents inside. Be sure to put the bag in an angle that will not allow the beads spill on the floor. Just in case your bean bag does not have a zipper, what you have to do is to create a small cut and then let the beads out of the hole. The cut should be in an area, which is not easily seen. This may take some time depending on the volume of the beads you are going to drain and the size of the hole that you made on your bean bag. The smaller the hole, the more time it will take you to drain it. After you are done, consider taking the old beads to a recycling hub instead of just putting it in with your regular garbage. This will keep it from going to a landfill because the recycling hub will process the material so it can be reused.

After draining the beads, the next step is to fill up the bag with bean bag refills such as new beads or other filling materials. The most common bean bag refill material is polystyrene beads, which can be bought at local stores. You can also buy it online if you do not have the time to go to a store. The quantity you need depends on the bag’s dimension. You might also want to try other varieties of filling such as shredded foam but these might cost more.

Once you have the bean bag refill materials, start pouring the filling into the bean bag cover. It will be difficult to pour the shredded foam so you have to do it using your hands. Do not put too much bean bag refill materials in the bag as this will make sitting in it uncomfortable. Finally, zip or sew up the cut and the bean bag will be back to its original form. Keep in mind to have the filling readily available for future use.
